maybe it is one of those korean fried chicken places. then it is not so bad. those are hip places. check out the ones in manhattan. you see all the young, hip people with beer and fried chicken enjoying the night.

I would be willing to bet that Popeye's is not opening up there. Like an earlier poster commented, Popeye's tend to be in lower income neighborhoods. That being said, if one did happen to open up, it wouldn't be the end of the world.

It's sad to think there are no upscale Continental food restaurants in FH (closer to Austin Street), akin to Danny Brown's. For those of us without cars, it would be nice to have this type of restaurant within walking distance.

And while I'm at it, how about opening up a decent, hip, (clean) coffee shop/diner?

The old UJ's spot would be a perfect location for either.

I checked the permits and they mention nothing of popeyes as a reference number.

I don't know who they rented this place out to. However all of Popeyes locations are not in the nicest neighborhoods. So if this does come, this means that Forest Hills is not going more upscale, it actually means the opposite. But with all the new construction coming in and the upscaling that is actually happening, I am really doubtful that this place will become a Popeyes fast food chain.

There is nothing on the DOB permit site to even suggest Popeyes at this time.

70th Rd will become another downtrodden 71st Av as the area continues to slide toward the scrappy retail and food establishments-- much akin to what one can experience on Jamaica Av, Sutphin Blvd, Bruckner Blvd, or Main St Flushing. If you are concerned about the riff raff that scours the region after dark now, get ready for the worst. Now shop owners will see even less foot traffic. Crime will increase. Property values will fall. The end is near-- yes indeed, it is, for Forest Hills.

I really like Popeye's (as greasy fried chicken goes), but I agree with the first comment about insufficient foot traffic and parking. If Wendy's could not stay in business on Continental, I don't see how Popeye's can do it in the UJ's space.

I used to drive to Lefrak for Church's and Jamaica on Sutphin and Hillside for Popeyes! Much better than KFC for sure! Can't see them opening fast food there though, I'm not sure if the foot traffic can sustain the business. Not enough parking and the traffic would deter drive-by/drop-ins.
I don't know how many more pseudo Japanese/sushi restaurants FH can take unless it's one of the conveyor belt ones!
Maybe they can put an indoor green market there instead.
